Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia
 The area of Populonia is of great cultural and archeological interest because
the Etruscan rests are distributed on a large area of the gulf. After the creation
of the Archeologial Park, a system has been developed which now allows the visitor
to learn more about this civilization's history. The Visit Centre of San Cerbone
is equipped with a information, signs and video-projections and gives at the beginning
of the excursion a complete overview of the Etruscan civilization in Populonia.
The Experimental Centre of Archaeology gives information on the old ceramics and
stone working and on the simulation of archaeological excavations. The visit to
the necropolis, from the sea to the hills, follows paths into the Mediterranean
maquis and overlooking the wonderful sea of the gulf of Baratti which exalts the
beauty of nature adding another pleasure to the visit.

Tuscan Archipelago and Elba Island
The National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago is a protected, terrestrial area
of just under eighteen thousand hectares, and a marine area of approximately sixty
thousand hectares - the largest European marine park. It is comprised of seven
main islands - Elba, Giglio, Capraia, Gorgona, Pianosa, Giannutri and Montecristo
- and several smaller islets and rocks: Ogliera, Scoglio della Triglia,Corbella,
the Gemini Island, Ortano, Isola dei Topi, Isole della Cappa, La Scarpa, La Scola,
La Peraiola, Lo Scoglio d'Africa and many others. When the Tyrrhenian Venus emerged
from the waves of the sea, seven gemstones fell from her tiara, and so the Islands
of the Tuscan Archipelago were born. This is the ancient legend of the birth of
the Tuscan Archipelago.

San Silvestro Park
The San Silvestro Park is immersed in a landscape of pine woods and mediterranean
macchia typical of the Tuscan coastal regions, where local fauna is abundant in
variety: here man has defied nature for centuries in the pursuit of precious minerals.
The most outstanding feature of the Park is the presence of evidence of mining
activity involving lead, copper and silver ores which continued with varying intensity
from the seventh to the twentieth century. A guided itinerary will take you through
the social organization, the economic system, the mining and building technologies
of this medieval community.

Coastal Park of Rimigliano
This protected coastal area covers an area of about 120 hectares. It is mainly
a naturalistic park even if several towers of the medieval coastal defence system
are still visible. The park extends over beaches and dunes where the bush has
been shaped by sea breezes, and guarded by the shady forest dominated by oaks
and by maritime pine with their characteristic parasol-shaped tops. Part of this
territory was a lake in ancient times (the lake of Rimigliano) which was drained
in the middle of the 20 th century. The area is of interest also for the study
of the ancient coastal lakes of the Cornia Valley.

Naturalistic Jewel of Bolgheri
A naturalistic jewel and the first WWF wildlife refuge in Italy. This internationally
recognised wetland is home to thousands of aquatic birds from November to May.
The Bolgheri marshes – whose beauty can best be appreciated watching from the
observation hides or following the boardwalks laid over the water – are situated
between a dense pinewood and a wide beach, in an area of dunes and tombolos.

Long lines of Tomboli
Long lines of Tomboli – dunes covered with thick vegetation running inland from
the beach – are part of an ecosystem which protects cultivated areas from the
sea winds.The Tomboli Biogenetic Nature Reserve at Cecina extends over 15 kilometres
and is one of Italy's most beautiful forests with a dense and varied vegetation
that changes the further it extends inland.
La Macchia della Magona
The Macchia della Magona is a sea of trees which extends for over 1600 hectares.
This protected natural park which used to be a lumber reserve can now be visited
all year long and is ideal for naturalistic and sports tourism. Sixteen itineraries
have been developed for a total of 50 kms of walking, horseback riding and mountain
bike trails in a typically Tuscan countryside.

Naturalistic Park of Punta Falcone and Sterpaia
West of Piombino in the small promontory between the gulfs of Salivoli and Calmoresca,
entrance to the large archeological natural park of Populonia, we find the Park
of Punta Falcone, which offers important naturalistic, marine and historical itineraries.
Along the paths lined with lush vegetation we can see rare examples of flora and
groups of gulls and cormorants. Continuing along this enchanting path we reach
Spiaggia Lunga, Cala San Quirico, Buca delle Fate, and finally the Gulf of Baratti.
In the upper part of the Park of Punta Falcone we find the Astronomic Observatory
and a small museum with 2 nd World War relics.
